Salt therapy, or halotherapy, is a holistic, drug-free, natural therapy using micro particles of salt to promote better breathing, healthier skin, sounder sleep, improved physical fitness and endurance, and overall wellness. Salt therapy also helps to alleviate symptoms of many respiratory and skin conditions.
The long history of salt therapy
Term halotherapy (from Greek halo, meaning salt) has been in use since the 1980-es.
Salt room atmosphere
Therapy includes spending time in a room that mimics the environment of salt caves.
During that time, we inhale microelements of crystal salt and we expose our bodies to dry and salty aerosol. The room used for such treatments has to have controlled conditions.
The air has to be allergen-free, temperature has to be between 18 and 24 degrees C and the moisture has to be between 40 and 60%.
Salt is a natural source of negative ions that “cleans the air”.
Microparticles of rock salt contain chemical elements, i.e. minerals that are proven to have healing effects on the health of the entire human organism.
Copper – Enhances metabolism
Zinc – Enhances the growth and development of bones
Iodine – Influences regular thyroid gland performance
Calcium – Necessary for the growth and health of our bones and teeth and for blood coagulation process and reduces the risk of heart diseases
Lithium – Protects against atherosclerosis, heart diseases and diabetes
Magnesium – Enhances the process of conversion of food into energy and protein creation, influences on reduction of nerve tension
Manganese – An antioxidant that protects against damages caused by free radicals found in unhealthy food
Selenium – An antioxidant that protects cells from being damaged, strengthens immune system, has an anti-aging effect on the skin
Iron – Prevents anemia, enhances organism’s resistance levels
During the treatment, via the dispersion process, the microelement from rocky salt is released into the air. Air enriched with salt particles penetrates deep into our skin and respiratory system, deeper than the air from the inhaler.
Inhaling such air helps remove viruses, bacteria, fungi, allergens, and toxins from our organism.
Adult treatment is usually 40 minutes long, 20 minutes for children. For achieving the best results, we recommend at least 10, if possible 15-20 treatments.
Later on, this therapy can be repeated two or three times every year.
Halotherapy is for everyone – elderly people, pregnant women, children, even infants, but only with permission from a pediatrician.
Inhalation is often combined with relaxing music and light stimulation for enhanced effects.
Salt therapy helps with the following diseases
- acnes, dermatitis, psoriasis
- upper and lower respiratory pathway problems
- cystic fibrosis
- ear infections
- chronic obstructive lung diseases
- chronic fatigue and stress
- hay fever
- common cold
- inflammation of bronchi, throat, tonsils, lungs and sinuses
Salt rooms are recommended to everyone as a form of disease prevention since salt room treatment enhances blood flow and strengthens the whole body.
Try salt room
- If you enjoy the freshness of air after the storm or near waterfalls, you will feel similarly in the salt room.
- It is believed that 20 minutes in the salt room have the same effects as being at the seaside for four days.
- So, salt rooms are an ideal healing vacation when we are not able to take a trip to the seaside.
If you have not been in a salt room already, experience the benefits offered in modern salt rooms!
